Our story
Our vision is to help high school students graduate with more than a certificate.
Our story starts with our founder, Ndey Yassin Camara, who was born and raised in Banjul, the capital of The Gambia, where she did all of her schooling from primary through high school. High school was a memorable time for Yassin, but it wouldn't have been a success without her teachers, her mentors and the many opportunities she was exposed to from the start. She had a strong support system, and she recognizes that not every student has the same privileges.
In 2017, Yassin received a full scholarship from the Mastercard Foundation and moved to Montreal, Canada, to study at McGill University. As a Mastercard Scholar, she joined a wider network of people committed to supporting her development. She went on to earn a BSc in Physiology and an MScA in Applied Biotechnology at McGill.
Yassin started BHS Academy to give high school students in The Gambia the same opportunities she had to flourish after graduation.
